2020 Workshops

Improvising with Props

Thursday, February 6, 2020

7:00pm - 9:00pm

Theatre Row Studios

411 West 41st Street, Studio 6

New York, NY 10036

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION:

On Thursday, February 6th, from 7-9pm, IRTE will be hosting our annual "Improvising with Props" workshop. Our intent is to brainstorm new and innovative ways to use the props in our current collection. For example, at past IRTE shows you may have seen us use red streamers for blood, blonde wigs as puppet rats, a blue plastic sheet to simulate a swimming pool. We're looking to get on our feet and discover new ways to think about the physical objects we have on hand and create new and interesting stage pictures with which to improvise. Workshop is limited to 16 people.

Cost: $10

Scenes That Work! Scotty's Scene Builder Workshop

Saturday, February 15, 2020  3:00pm - 6:00pm

Theatre Row Studios

411 West 41st Street, Studio 3

New York, NY 10036

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION:

Scene work is the backbone of improvisational theatre. It is the medium through which we explore the larger narrative. But in improvisation, “in the moment,” we’ll often sabotage ourselves and create unnecessary challenges to overcome.

Remember back to that last scene you were in that crashed and burned. I guarantee that the mistakes were made in the first 30-seconds. Scotty teaches how to initiate scenes that work so you can tell your story your way.

We’ll work on…

Smart initiation

Getting to the point

Keeping your inventory small, specific and important
