Nannette Deasy, Artistic Director

Nannette Deasy, AEA, is the Founder and Artistic Director of IRTE. She has performed at theatres including the Public Theatre, LaMama Etc., Ensemble Studio Theatre, New York Theatre Workshop, the PIT, UCB, Chicago City Limits, Gotham City Improv, Gotham Comedy Club, theatre festivals all around the country and the Teatro Franco Parenti in Milan, Italy, as well as in various films. Her recent work in “Love Lives in a Void” earned her the Grand Jury Award, Best Actress at the American Filmatic Arts Awards. She’s been a cast member of numerous comedy groups and theatres, including Gotham City Improv and PIT-TV. She also performs as one half of the comedy duo Double-D (with former IRTE company member Graceann Dorse), creating and producing original comedic live shows and films. Their original comedies, The Vole Sisters, Scranton Buckets and Rejects Anonymous, recently debuted at the Scranton Fringe Festival. Their original virtual comedy Glamour Puss won Best Family Show and Best Improv Show at Tucson Fringe Festival 2021 and Best Interactive Show at Pittsburgh Fringe 2021.

Robert Baumgardner, Executive Director

Robert (founding member) not only performs with IRTE but has directed several of their shows. He has appeared at improv festivals in NYC, Philadelphia, Tampa, Portland, and New Orleans, and has performed scripted work around the world including the McCarter Theater, Indiana Rep, and Teatro Franco Parenti in Milan, Italy. He has worked in film and TV. He began his acting career playing the letter “Q” in the word “Thanksgiving” (not a large role) in a grade school play, then went on to receive a BFA in acting/directing from UNC – Greensboro. He studied comedy improv at the PIT and Gotham City Improv, along with sketch comedy at UCB. He has also studied improvisational technique and process with Aretha Sills (daughter of Paul Sills, and granddaughter of Viola Spolin), as well as with Michael Gellman of Second City. He is a member of the famed Actors Studio.

Jamie Maloney, Education Director

Jamie Maloney has been a comedy performer for the past 22 years, including 18 as an improviser. He appeared in virtually every show at Gotham City Improv from 2005 to 2011 and is a founding member of IRTE, The Improvisational Repertory Theatre Ensemble. He has been a teacher, a coach, and has conceptualized and developed many original shows and characters which have been showcased at venues in New York and Philadelphia. He has more comic books than he cares to admit.
